U21 Walton Casuals FC – 2 U21 Cobham FC – 1
Last night, under the lights at the Waterside Hub, the WC FC U21 team made their opening night debut to a fair sized crowd that – unofficially – numbered over 70. Under the tutorship of Manager Mark Harewood and with Senior Team Manager Anthony Gale watching (adding his observations at half-time) the boys gave a truly impressive performance.
The team was made up mostly of WCJ U18 Juniors – who already have 3 players on the fringe of a Senior Team place – plus a couple of players that are trialling for our promotion chasing Bostik South side.
Playing their quick passing, high press game, the boys dominated the first-half and walked into the changing room 2 – 0 up after two well taken finishes by Andrew Hallam.
The second-half started in the same vein and although Walton created many more chances the final touch into the net didn’t materialise. Cobham encouraged by this turn of events grew in confidence and fought back well, scoring a deserved goal in return. The match continued with more chances at both ends but with no more goals.
The victory to Casuals was well earned, and there were too many good performances to single out individuals. A tip of the hat though must go to Coach Mark Harewood who’s belief in passing football and hard-work has produced some very fine young players, who we all hope will one day soon grace the Senior side’s team-sheet.
