SLEEVES FULLY ROLLED UP AS PANTHERS WIN GRITTY BATTLE OVER LEATHERHEAD

Panthers maintained their 100% start to the season with their 7th win on the bounce.

Having beaten Leatherhead Juniors a few weeks earlier, Panthers returned to the excellent Leatherhead facilities to take on the Leatherhead Youth side that had played in the Elite division last year and were the team that knocked Panthers out of the SYL Cup last season.

The game started fairly physically and that set the tone for the rest of match.

Both teams were also exploiting their pace up top and in fact it was Leatherhead that benefited first. Panthers had won a freekick just in the opposition half.

HALF TIME Leatherhead 1-0 Panthers

The second half was a very different game! Panthers pulled level from a William corner, that Will connected with and despite it hitting Jake C before finding the back of the net, it was definitely Will’s goal! 1-1

Tate had to be withdrawn 10 minutes into the half, which is a little concerning as we have less cover there. Jake B played 10 minutes there, and then Devon moved across with Ollie dropping back into Central Defence alongside Jake C. The defence remained resolute throughout

Omar was reintroduced in the unfamiliar role of sole striker, and it was either ingenious or lucky management decision, as within a minute he had put Panthers in front.

Regular substitutions from the Panthers kept the legs fresh on the pitch, and with 5 minutes to go, the game was won. Some slick passing following a brilliant tackle by Will initially to win the ball and then burst into space, before releasing Zeno who pulled the ball across the box to Joe who thought about a shot but instead picked out Omar who unselfishly knocked it back to William who smashed it past the Keeper… 1-3
