LB: William Carolan
CDM: Jason Aherne (c) & Nathan Robinson

CM: Harry Birkett & Oliver Todd

A sense of excitement and nerves could be felt today as the Bears arrived. With the new kit laid out in the changing room the Bears knotted up and went out to warm up taking everything in their stride. Both teams lined up in the tunnel and were led onto the pitch by their respective managers and the referee Mark Biss.
The game kicked off and the Bears were right into their stride as they used the pitch size to their advantage (as they were instructed in the pre match team talk). As within 50 secs we worked an opportunity and Harry Birkett let a rocket of shot go from 35 yards that rattled the crossbar.
We then camped ourselves in Woodmansternes half and kept the ball moving, passing rings around them and creating chances. We only had to wait 15 minutes for the first ever goal to be scored in a competitive match at the new Sports Hub as Joshua Fahey capitalised on a poor touch from a Woodmansterne defender and dispossessed him to then fire a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. 1-0 BEARS
3 minutes later Joe Foster Smythe had a glorious chance to put the Bears 2-0 up after Joshua Fahey squared the ball across the face of the goal but credit to the opposition keeper who made himself big and managed to block Joe’s shot.
In the 24 minute the Bears strike the crossbar again as Joe Returns the favour and tees up Joshua who smashes his effort against the crossbar….still 1-0 and were starting to think will it be one of those days??
6 minutes later in the 30th minute Josh Buxton continues from where he left off last season as he scores his first goal of the season (scored 43 last season). As Joshua Fahey provides him with a pass that leaves just the keeper to beat. No mistake 2-0 BEARS
Bears return to the changing room for their half time team talk….and the manager asks them to just keep playing how they were and the goals would come. We were using the pitch and the ball superbly.
2 minutes into the 2nd half and the Bears were 3-0 up as Harry Birkett plays a defence splitting pass to find the run of Josh Buxton who slots it past the keeper. 3-0 BEARS
Then after another 12 minutes Harry Birkett is the provider again but this time to Joshua Fahey who also scored his 2nd of the game. 4-0 BEARS
The Bears were now in complete control and were pinging the ball around making Woodmansterne chase shadows….in the 58th minute Joshua Fahey misses a glorious chance after beating the keeper his shot finds the post.
Then Joe Foster Smythe has the chance to get on the score sheet again but doesn’t connect properly with the ball and puts it wide after some excellent play from Oliver Todd to create the chance.
2 minutes later in the 62nd minute Oliver Todd puts Joshua Fahey through again who misses another clear cut chance.
However in the 64th minute Josh Buxton puts the game well and truly to bed as he powers home for his hat trick after another defence splitting pass from Oliver Todd. 5-0 BEARS
Woodmansterne get on the scoresheet in the 65th minute as the Bears lose their shape for a split second that allows a shot on goal (the only one of the match) 5-1 BEARS
The goals seems to lift the spirit of Woodmansterne as they have another attack in the 66th minute but Tom Hone deals with it easily and the rebound doesn’t result in to anything apart from the Bears having their first goal kick of the game.
Bears switch back on again after captain Jason Aherne tells them what for as he screams for them to mark up and press….the team listens and break forward in the 71st minute as Nathan Fidge collects the ball on the edge of the area and curls one into the top corner to round off the victory with a debut goal. 6-1 BEARS
What a performance from the Bears every single player played superbly and we could have given out 13 man of the matches but today for his sheer presence, hold up, play and all round game it goes to Joshua Fahey.
The Bears got clapped off the pitch by the Walton Casuals senior team and were congratulated by Anthony Gale (1st team Manager) as Anthony came into the changing room to praise the Bears on how they played and how they should be proud of the way they just represented the orange of Walton Casuals with a superb footballing performance.
1st game of the season, 1st competitive game at the sports hub, 1st goal scored, 1st win recorded….a day of history.
THE U13 BEARS ARE NOW IN WALTON CASUALS HISTORY FOREVER !!!
See you all at training on Thursday, well done to all of you. Today and everyday I am so proud to be your manager and to be going on this football journey with you.
